AT&T offers new ignition lock

AT&T has added their name into the line-up of ignition locks available in Rhode Island for law enforcement officials to use.

While there are three other companies working in the state to provide breathalyzer ignition locks for the law enforcement community, AT&T’s contribution is a lock that includes a global positioning device that will pinpoint the vehicle for police to immediate locate and intercept. The hope, for authorities, is that these types of immediate response devices will prevent further complications that less technologically advanced models cannot. With these devices, police can arrive to assist the public, protecting them from potential confrontations with a possibly belligerent drunk driver.

Other models prevent engine start-up and trigger an alarm from the car. AT&T’s model does this as well as providing GPS information to local police.
