Wednesday morning, just before 1 AM, a Massachusetts state trooper noticed a wrecked and overturned Jeep Grand Cherokee on the side of the eastbound lanes of Route 195. Trooper Allyson Powell saw a man trapped in the Jeep and fortunately, was able to extricate the man from the vehicle. Powell cut the man’s seatbelt and pulled him out of the car just before it erupted in flames.
The driver of the Jeep, 23-year old Michael Canty, was immediately taken to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence with unspecified serious injuries. Police have charged him with driving under the influence, speeding, and operating to endanger.
