Alcohol Poisoning

Sometimes, a fun night out with friends can get out of control. We often forget how easy it can be to drink too much, especially when dense amounts of alcohol are being consumed quickly. Taking shots or participating in drinking games are two of the most common ways that people manage to drink more than they should. When someone ingests more alcohol than the body can handle, then he or she is at risk of suffering from a dangerous condition known as alcohol poisoning.

The Signs of Alcohol Poisoning

Alcohol poisoning can be deadly if it is not treated right away. Someone with alcohol poisoning mayexperience the following symptoms:

  • Confusion
  • Vomiting
  • Seizures
  • Irregular breathing
  • Low body temperature
  • Unconsciousness

In the worst cases, those with alcohol poisoning may also suffer extreme dehydration as a result of excessive vomiting, brain damage, or even death.

Treatment for Alcohol Poisoning Victims

Most of the time, an alcohol poisoning victim will be unable to recognize his or her condition, much less realize its severity. It is up to outside parties to seek immediate, professional medical attention for this suffering individual.

Those with alcohol poisoning should be watched carefully to ensure that they are breathing okay. They should be kept off of their backs to avoid choking (asphyxiating) on vomit.
