Sobering Up
Most people enjoy the occasional night out on the town with friends. Many times, these experiences are coupled with alcohol consumption. Unfortunately, however, if you are still feeling the effects of that alcohol when it’s time to drive home, you may face a very difficult decision.
There are many myths and tricks floating around about how to best sober up quickly. You have likely been given numerous pieces of advice about how to most effectively rid your body of alcohol, or at least numb its effects. While some of these tales may seem to make sense, the truth of the matter remains that there really is no way to speed up the sobering process.
One of the most common tips for sobering up is to drink coffee or some other form of caffeine in order to increase your alertness. Though this might make sense, introducing a stimulant into your body does not actually reduce the amount of alcohol in your system. You might feel the effects of the caffeine, but you also remain under the influence of alcohol.
Other widespread pieces of advice include consuming a lot of water as you drink alcohol and eating before and after you drink. As with the caffeine myth, these techniques will not actually rid your body of alcohol any quicker. However, they might make you feel full faster, and as a result you may drink less alcohol. If this is the case, then you will not get as drunk and will therefore sober more rapidly.
